SIDE THOUGHTS - If We Did Not Have to Worry About What Other People Think, Would We Be Better Parents?

If we did not have to worry about what the other shoppers at the grocery store would think, we would stick to our "NO!" when our 2 years old child ask for the box of bright colored cereal on the shelf even if he started to scream at the top of his lungs.

If we did not have to worry about what the neighbors would think, we would stop nagging our 6 year old son to wear a jacket. We would just teach him a lesson and let him go out in the cold without one to feel the cold in his bones.

If we did not have to worry about what the walker bys would think, we would just let our 3 year old cry out her full-blown tantrum on the sidewalk.

If we did not have to worry about what the teachers would think, we would just let our 5 year son wear his favorite plaid shirt with his comfy checkered pants.

If we did not have to worry about what our holiday guests would think, we would just discipline our kids the same as we always do no matter who we have as guests in the house when the kids misbehave.

If we did not have to worry about what our parent peers would think, we would openly discuss our kids' and their kids' behaviors and brainstorm together about how to handle them.

If we did not have to worry, we would accept help, seek advice, stick to our beliefs, and probably become better parents.

I could not agree more! I say no cares what others think! Just do what you got to do. I mean the other folks will not be around when your child is grown up...so why let them affect your actions now??? If my Julie has a tantrum at Stop and Shop because I will not let her have a toy, I let her cry it out. I get some strange looks but hey, what's a mother to do?

Wishful thinking! Parents talk all the time about other parents all the time. So and so this, so and so that. Did you tell so and so's kid? Oh my god, it was freezing out yesterday and he had no hat and no gloves. blah blah blah blah

Aside from abuse, we should leave other parents alone to parent. I mean there could be many reasons why something is the way it is - we should not judge and let the parents be!

I AM OBSESSED with my kids being pn their best behavior in front of my guests. Once my kid screamed NO to me in front of my in laws and friends, I was mortified!

Parenting is compettive! We as a society have let our competitive nature seep into parenting. it is all about how schools the kids go to, how many books they have read, how many activities they are involved in. It is crazy!

So with you! I could not have said it better myself!

I second that.

I DON"T CARE AT ALL what my neighbors think. It is more important to me to teach my kids right then to worry about other people's opinions.
