IN THE NEWS - Surgery to get rid of pregnancy fat?

Now, I am not happy with my tummy flab after having two babies, but somehow surgeons packaging a set of plastic surgeries targeting mommies and calling them “mommy makeover” offends me. See the article link below from NY Times. These surgeons seem to think that mommies can't possibly be okay with their bodies after having babies. I have nothing against plastic surgeries and people who choose to get them, but packaging them to target mommies bothers me.

What are your thoughts?

yeah...that is very weird. I would love to hae my pre-baby body back, but these doctors sound like medicine's equivilant to ambulance-chasing lawyers. Ick!

The problem I think, is that it is cool nowadays to look like you were never pregnant a few seconds after given birth.

Of course most celebrities do that by faking the pregnancy and adopting a kid from afganistan...

interesting - but i am not as turned off by this as i thought i would be... i didn't have a great pre-pregnancy body and i had a c-section and i would have loved a tummy tuck while they were down there ripping out my guts - but i am not one for voluntary anestesia...

Stacy, thanks for visiting and commenting! I hear you! Plastic surgery is not bad, just the packaging of them as "mommy makeover"...

Freelance, thanks for visiting and commenting! The celebs do look great after being pregnancy, isn't funny how we check them out though after they had their baby to see if they have been able to use their baby weight? It would be great to just see one celeb not be back in shape and say that they are completely happy with their new bodies....

Jill, thanks for visiting and commenting. Hmm, C-section and tummy tuck at the same time - don't give the surgeons new ideas! :)

So what surgeons will always cater to our low self image to get business - this is no different.

Mommy Makeovers...... As a father I think this is a horrible thing to subject our wives to. The pain of birth not withstanding, plastic surgery, doesn't come with out its own pain. These doctors are capitalizing on insecurities, and I think it’s disgusting. It is equivalent in my mind to offering a starving man a sandwich. Yeah he'll be fed for a few hours, but if he doesn't continue to eat, he will be hungry again. The same applies to tummy tucks and the like. Yes it is a quick fix, but if the bodies aren't looked after, exercise or what have you, they will have paid all that money for surgery for nothing. And if you are going to exercise after surgery to keep that body fit, you can pass on the expensive surgery, and just do a bit more exercise. I appreciate that exercise is hard after just having a kid, but surgery is simply a quick fix, and not the answer.

Just one Dad's Opinion.

Anthony, thanks for visiting and commenting! It is great to hear from a Dad! I agree surgeries are dangerous. Of course, Moms are grown ups who can make decisions themselves but I think they would all appreciate hearing from their husbands that their post pregnancy are beautiful and then support them on their diet and excerise.
